“…the cells of life
Bound themselves into clans, a multitude of cells
To make one being – as the molecules before
Had made of many one cell. Meanwhile they had invented
Chlorophyll and ate sunlight, cradled in peace
On the warm waves.”
- Robinson Jeffers – The Beginning and the End (1963)
When I read this poem I thought I had literally discovered something new. As though the moment a scientist - an alchemist - is revealed a new form of creation. Something delightfully remarkable! It was the moment words came close to expressing an experience I had two months ago. Yeah! Words. I hope to find the entire poem someday, in that time I'll wait, for I believe the "the cells of life" will best show me what I need to know.
