Seeing the Forest and the Tree...

I have been reflecting on the state of the world and the cosmos lately.
Feeling the affects of human, global, and cosmic change. Reminding myself to stay still and relaxed in these new currents. It's incredible to see the changes that have occurred only in the last 10 years. Our resources and ecosystems are depleting - water, forestry, mammals, and the smallest of creatures - and we have little responsibility to change. As a country we are still focused on our economy before all else. And we still seem not able to see the Forest before the Tree.

Seeing the Forest and the Tree... from my perspective, literally! I am experiencing both. As I have been working at a environmental education site of 850-acres, I often see the little things of life daily... the petite wildflowers blooming everywhere, the spider scurrying to get from one place to another, the macro-invertebrates moving in the petri dish, the hawks flying high on wind currents, and the phenomenal view of the mountains ever changing due to the rain and sunlight... remarkable experiences surprising me at every turn. In these moments I feel full. I am overwhelmed with the intricacy of the details and the wholeness of Nature. I feel most of all Gratitude beyond expression. A joy that wells up in my body and fills me with awe. The feeling my body will burst into a million particles of light and I am freedom.

And as I write this, high on a mountain top looking out the house window, I see the mountain range across the valley shrouded in clouds... peaking at moments through the mist to remind me they are still there. Ironically, the drilling crew is up the hill from the house building a water storage tank. The house well has been sporadic for the house owner for the last several years... and it is pouring rain today! You'd think it was November.

So, the Tree I see is everywhere. It is with me every step of the day. Reminding me to see the little things, to see the interconnectedness between the rock, the plant, mammal, and me. To witness what life has to show me in the details and how it leads to the journey that becomes the path.

And the Forest... it calls to me too, with great vastness - open and awe inspiring. The interconnectedness is irreplaceable, inconceivably intertwined with one another, with us, with me - the detail. The Forest is the path. The travel between the macrocosm, the microcosm and the cosmos.

The Forest is a hundred miles away, yet right at my fingertips... when I touch the Tree.
